About The Event

This one day workshop from Jessica Spenceley is an excellent foundation level training on safeguarding & child protection for anyone working with or supporting children & young people. The training will be interactive and include a variety of teaching styles and ways of experiential learning. As well as providing vital foundational knowledge, this day is also an opportunity to connect  and discuss these areas of practice with peers and fellow attendees as well as Jessica.

It is suitable as a refresher course for experienced practitioners & professionals, as well as a good entry level for those working with / supporting children & young people and/or anyone wanting to give themselves a grounding in safeguarding and child protection.

What does the day cover?

The areas of safeguarding and child protection are central to our work with children and young people. We must have a high degree of knowledge in these areas to be effective in our practice, and naturally, we all want to do our best for our clients. However, the topics of safeguarding and child protection can sometimes leave us feeling daunted, and we may worry if we are getting it right.

The Foundations in Safeguarding and Child Protection workshop will be a space where professionals can come together to create a culture that embraces the ethos of safeguarding and child protection, where they may further integrate their thinking and practice in these key areas. Throughout the course of the day, participants will be supported to:

  • Gain clarity on key definitions
  • Distil important pieces of legislation and guidance
  • Explore how this relates to practice
  • Consider relevant theory
  • Understand what to do and when
  • Become more confident practitioners

Opportunities for networking and peer learning will also be included as part of the day.

Who is this workshop for?

The workshop will be covering the foundational knowledge around safeguarding and child protection, and as such, it will be a helpful space for any participants who might need a refresher, require a top-up as part of their existing CPD provision, are new to private practice and/or are interested in getting a solid grounding in the subject area.

It is open to anyone working with and /or supporting children & young people in any capacity including: counsellors, psychotherapists, therapeutic well-being practitioners, play therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, charity support workers, teaching staff, community youth workers, young person support workers, and anyone else who has an interest in safeguarding and child protection.

The Foundations workshop will create the framework needed for practitioners to access higher level safeguarding trainings, as they will come away from the Foundations workshop understanding the context and meaning around how to embody safe, effective, legally compliant practice with children and young people.
