About The Event

Training from the The Sunflower Network

A one day workshop for practitioners & professionals

A day looking at working with issues around suicide and suicidal ideation in children & young people, facilitated by therapist, author and national expert on youth self-harm, Jude Sellen-Cole. A follow on day from her highly successful introductory workshop on self-harm (30th November 2019), this day can be attended both independently as a stand alone training and as an addition to the areas explored previously.

The day looks to expand awareness and deepen knowledge of this highly emotive and complex area of work, as well as discuss techniques and strategies to be taken away with you. It will also explore ways of managing your own self-care whilst working with and within this field.

Who is it for: Anybody working with children & young people. The workshop will be particularly relevant to those who seek to support children and young people in their capacity as therapists, school pastoral staff, and those who work in youth, youth offending, social and health carer settings. The learning from the day will be equally relevant to those working with adults.

Tutor: Jude Sellen-Cole works as a therapist, supervisor and independent consultant in the area of youth mental health. She is regarded as a national expert in youth self-harm and is the author of ‘Youth Self-Harm and Suicide Awareness (A reflective practice guide for staff working with children and young people)’ 2015; and has contributed to numerous other publications. Her professional knowledge and expertise has been gained over 35 years working in Children's, CAMHS and Adult services in operational, strategic and commissioning posts. She enjoys abstract painting, photography and walking her dog.
