About The Event

BDSM (bondage and discipline, domination and submission and sadomasochism) or kink are terms used to describe a range of practices or a lifestyle that is characterised by the consensual, or risk-aware, exchange of power, role play and often intense sensory stimulation or deprivation.

Historically BDSM has been pathologised and stigmatised, which is especially concerning as there is evidence to show that those involved in kink can have better mental health than those who do not*.

On this one-day workshop, led by Diane Hassall and Keeley Mardon, you will build your awareness of kink and BDSM practices, etiquette and terminology. We will consider some of the more common practices, as well as looking at fetishes and newer, less well-known sexual practices such as Digisex and Chemsex.

You will examine your own belief and biases, and develop therapeutic approaches to working with clients involved in diverse sexual practices.

* The Journal of Sexual Medicine, online May 16, 2013
