Welcome to a series of exciting, interesting and intriguing online lectures offering personal and professional insights into how men perceive experiences of boys and men, and the cultural messages that influence behaviour and difficulties.
Against a background of rising rates of mental health problems for men and an increased awareness of gender politics, these lectures provide more than statistics. Speaking from experience, our lecturers will encourage delegates to think more deeply about how we understand boys and men, the strategies that develop their resilience and the questions we need to ask.
15th June - A Young Man's Journey out of Trauma with Simon Weston
In this presentation, Simon will share how, as a young man, he turned his experience of trauma into a motivating force.
17th June - Men, Boys and Authority with Dr Manu Bazzano
An exploration of masculinity drawing from psychotherapy and the mythical story of Jason and the Golden Fleece.
24th June - Psychological Muscle and the Developing Male Experience with Dr Paul Rasmussen
Using Adlerian concepts related to the concept of Psychological Muscle is introduced as a critical type of power for boys and men.
1st July - Taking Boys' Education Seriously: towards a new and solution-focussed narrative with Dr Erik Cownie
The deficit and problematising nature of the discourse around boys and education is counter-productive & self-fulfilling.
8th July - Where have all of the men gone? With Ben Nuss
Why are men not accessing help at the same rate at which they are presenting with mental health difficulties?
15th July - Using Metaphor and Analogy to open a dialogue with young adult boys with Sean Flynn
The workshop will present a basic therapeutic structure, that can be added to, adapted or changed, using films, books, anime & role playing.
